A bit about me!
Elaine Miller, IMDT
Canine training & behaviour
During many happy years living with dogs of various breeds, from puppies to seniors, I have faced the challenges of training, behaviour issues, illness and injury. Looking more closely at how dogs communicate, learn and why they behave the way they do, I became fascinated in our complex companions!
While learning about the science of behaviour change, I have seen proof that reward-based training methods are highly effective for all types of animals (including humans!). Good holistic healthcare and nutrition can also have a huge impact on wellbeing and behaviour.
I am qualified by The Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, who carry out bi-annual practical re-assessments and run regular workshops to ensure their members continue to study and develop. My qualifications in dog training and behaviour are externally verified by The Open College Network. As a full member of The Pet Professional Guild, I thoroughly endorse ethical standards of training, using only kind methods.
Highly committed to dog bite prevention, I provide quality education to children, families and local community groups, as a member of Doggone Safe and a ‘Be a Tree’ presenter.
To ensure continued development and keep up-to-date with the latest research, I have become a bit of seminar junkie! I regularly attend theory and practical workshops, as it’s really important to me to provide the best possible professional service to my clients.
I have been fortunate enough to have learned from many esteemed trainers, including Dr Susan Friedman, Grisha Stewart, Kay Laurence, Isla Fishburn, Chirag Patel and Prof Daniel Mills.
As Manager of the Scottish Rally Team, I was delighted (and very proud) when the Team gained 3rd place at the Inter-regional competition held at Crufts last March. I also enjoy competing with my own dogs and have been honoured to judge at various Rally competitions around the UK.
Dogs are my passion – I want the very best for them! As a trainer, my goal is to promote a positive, enriching life for dogs and their families.
At home, my two crazy Flat Coated Retrievers (aged 4 and 6) are determined never to grow up and they fill my days with laughter and fun.
I’d love to help you gain a better understanding of your dog and why they do what they do – to help you to connect with them, so life is easier for everyone … and most importantly, for you to have more fun together!
